On 6 March 2023, VŠB-TUO became the first Czech university to join the Open Networking Foundation (ONF) alongside major foreign universities such as Sorbonne Université, University of Utah, University of Ottawa, and leading global companies such as Intel, Google, Microsoft and others.
The ONF has developed a number of innovative technologies, mainly in the areas of software-defined networking, mobile 5G and future 6G networks. ONF membership will primarily benefit the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering through the Department of Telecommunications Engineering, where research activities related to ONF activities have been ongoing for a long time.
