The Development of Industrial Sensors and the Extension of the provided IoT Services
The aim of the project is the development of the IoT systems for on premises environments of the customers that prefer closed non-cloud services and infrastructure. The goal is to develop a wireless water-metering system, a system for the detection of the illegal wood harvests, a fire detection system and a parking sensors system. These systems will consist of sensors and metering devices, with which the applied research on efficient signal spread and the hardware design is connected. This also includes, among others, the induction-based rotation measuring that could replace the up-to-date optical detectors. A complex communication infrastructure will complement the developed sensors. The concept of this infrastructure is to reflect the needs of modern communication systems and will therefore mean a major qualitative improvement when compared with commonly used infrastructures that, for example, pay little attention to security aspects of the communication due to the difficult implementation of the protocols to the LPWAN network devices.

ERASMUS DIMTV
The project is supported by European Comission within ERASMUS programme in the specific call „Capacity Building in the Field of Higher Education“ and the project goal is Development and Implementation of Multimedia and Digital TV curricula (DIMTV) in Albania. Currently, the electronic media institutions in Albania have an evident lack of specialists in the field of Multimedia and Digital TV (MDTV). In the last years, the switch from analogue to digital broadcasting has been a challenge for Western Balkan countries. Despite the intensive efforts to make this switching, the full transition to digital TV transmissions has not been finalized yet. Even though huge investments have been done in media technology, the quality of broadcasting is not in the required level. The professional support from the EU partner countries with their high expertise and knowledge in the MDTV field will be a valuable treasure for the universities/enterprises in Albania. The rolle of VSB-TUO is as an advanced EU partner sharing its expertise together with next universitites from EU such as University of Tartu or University of Ljubljana.

ERASMUS DBBT
The project is supported by European Comission within ERASMUS programme in the specific call „Capacity Building in the Field of Higher Education“ and the project goal is implementation of the modern master study programme that enable education of the specialists in the field of Digital Broadcasting and Broadband Technology which study profile is in line with the needs of labour market and upcoming transfer from Analogue to Digital Broadcasting in regional partner countries. The graduated students would be capable to apply acquired knowledge in the business in order to speed up digitising of broadcast services. Graduated students will also be capable to implement and maintain modern and improve existing Broadcast and Broadband Communication Systems. The education of the experts would improve existing state in the area of digital technologies (particularly in digitising of Radio and TV and improving of multimedia broadband services) in West Balkan countries in accordance with the principles of EU best practice.

Secure Gateway for the Internet of Things (SIoT)
The main goal of the project is to enhance security in the ever-expanding Internet of Things (IoT) networks, which today often contain insecure and easily invasive elements. The present project wants to achieve this by creating an access gateway for these networks, able to communicate across a wide variety of wireless protocols, while also detecting incidents in connected networks and offering maximum information to the user on how to resolve these problems. The gateway will provide simple API for embedding its detection modules. The administrator, security technician, or the user himself will not only be able to run a set of ready-made detection modules but will also be able to embed a proprietary detection system in response to current cyber threats or problems. The openness and modularity of the gateway aim to create a unified platform for the community of people involved in IoT safety research. The gateway will be modelled on the communication of the individual IoT nodes and reported deviations from normal behaviour. This behavioural pattern will be refined based on additional information from other IoT nodes, which will help refine the detection of security incidents. The gateway’s functional sample will be built over an OpenWRT router with several hardware USB modules to support various wireless protocols/networks. An open operating system will allow easy portability of gateway functionality between different routers, as OpenWRT is now available for a large number of home routers. To IoT, the project will provide the opportunity to build its own secure gateway using a standard commodity router and a custom or standard USB module.
